Irvington Man Arrested & Arraigned on Gun and Drug Charges

Newark – An Irvington man was arraigned today on drug and weapons charges following his arrest last Thursday by Essex County sheriff’s detectives.

Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that officers from his department’s Bureau of Narcotics executed a search warrant, issued by Superior Court Judge Michael Petrolle, for the first floor apartment at 152 19th Avenue in Irvington.

Sheriff Fontoura said the BON detectives arrived at the residence at 2:40 p.m. and found the front door the house open. Entering the building, the sheriff’s officers also found the apartment door open. Just inside the door was a pitbull which charged at the BON detectives. The animal’s aggressive behavior was neutralized by several bursts of pepper spray.

Barricaded Drug Stash Raided; 4 Suspects Arrested

Newark – One of six pitbulls, guarding a known drug house, was shot and killed yesterday and four suspects were arraigned today, following their arrest by Essex County sheriff’s detectives on drug charges.

Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that officers from his department’s Tactical Response Team (TRT) and Bureau of Narcotics (BON) executed a search warrant, issued by Superior Court Judge Peter V. Ryan, yesterday afternoon for a single family residence, located at 254 Weequahic Avenue.

Reward Offered in Newark Murder Case

Newark Law enforcement authorities today posted a cash reward offer for information about a Newark homicide.

Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that at the request of Acting Prosecutor Carolyn Murray the Crimestoppers program has offered a cash reward up to $5,000 for details that lead to an arrest in the murder of Vince Franklin, age 49, who was fatally shot shortly after midnight on April 2, 2012.

Vehicle Stop Leads to Drug Arrest

Newark – A routine motor vehicle stop today by Essex County sheriff’s officers led to the arrest of a drug suspect.

Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that officers from his department were on quality of life patrol near the intersection of Empire and Victoria streets late this afternoon when they pulled over a 1999 Chrysler 300 with no visible license plates.

Sheriff Fontoura said that when the officers approached the vehicle they detected the pungent odor of marijuana. The driver of the Chrysler, Erica Wright, was questioned as well as her passenger, 46-year-old Karl Culver of Newark.

Sheriff's Detectives Seize 1/2 Pound of Cocaine, 202 Decks of Heroin, Gun

Newark – A male suspect was arraigned today on multiple drug and weapons charges following his arrest yesterday afternoon by Essex County sheriff’s detectives.

Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that as part of an on-going investigation into drug trafficking in Newark’s South Ward detectives from his department’s Bureau of Narcotics conducted a plainclothes surveillance operation at noon on Tuesday at 31 Aldine Street.

Sheriff Fontoura said the BON officers were in position when they observed Derrick Camillo, age 49, and Eric Ford, age 43, both of Newark, approach 27-year-old Talon Thomas who was standing in front of his residence. After a brief conversation, the sheriff’s officers observed as Thomas walked down his driveway, open a door, bend down and retrieve items that were on the floor in a blue bag.
