Newark – A suspect wanted on two open criminal warrants for the possession and distribution of narcotics surrendered himself this morning to EssexCounty sheriff’s detectives at Veterans Courthouse and additional drug charges were filed against him.
Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that Charles Wooten, age 22, of Newark turned himself in today on the prior drug charges.
Upon processing Wooten, Sheriff Fontoura said that Officer Robert Bailey conducted a routine search of the suspect and discovered 22 bags of marijuana hidden in his underpants.
Newark – Law enforcement authorities today posted a cash reward offer for information that leads to the arrest of a suspect wanted in a series of bank robberies.
Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that his department’s Crimestoppers program will pay up to $2,500 for details about the whereabouts of suspect who has robbed three banks in Essex and Passaic counties during the past four months.
Fontoura said the suspect is described as a male Hispanic, approximately 5’ 8”, weighing 190 pounds and is between the ages of 25 to 35.
Newark – A suspected Bloods street gang member was arraigned today on weapons and drug charges following his arrest by EssexCounty sheriff’s officers on Friday.
Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that officers from his department were on routine quality of life patrol in a marked vehicle near the intersection of Kent and Brenner streets late Friday afternoon when a late model Lincoln LS with illegally tinted windows drove by them.The sheriff’s officers activated overhead lights and siren to conduct a motor vehicle stop.
At this point, the rear passenger door opened and a male, later identified as Daquan Cuttino, age 19, of Newark, exited the Lincoln and ran from the scene.
Newark – A suspect was arraigned today on multiple drug charges following his arrestearlier this week by EssexCounty sheriff’s officers.
Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that detectives from his department’s Bureau of Narcotics conducted a plainclothes surveillance operation at 321 Park Avenue on Monday morning as part of an on-going investigation of their target, 55-year-old Leoncio Vargas.
Sheriff Fontoura said that Vargas was observed leaving his residence by the BON detectives at and he was followed.
