Reward Offer Increased in Henderson Murder

Newark – Sheriff Armando Fontoura today announced that his department’s Crimestoppers cash reward offer for information that leads to an arrest in last week’s shooting death of a Newark high school student has increased and now stands at up to $7,000. “Donors from our community who wish to remain anonymous have contacted us and have pledged additional funding to our initial reward offer of $5,000,” Sheriff Fontoura noted. “These anonymous donors have been shocked and outraged by the circumstances surrounding the death of this promising young woman.” Tammy Henderson, age 19, was with friends in front of a South 11th Street residence late on Thursday night when a gunman opened fire into the crowd. Henderson was struck by the gunfire and died of her wounds the next morning. Persons with information about the crime are urged to contact the Essex County Prosecutor’s Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force at 1-877-847-7432. All calls to law enforcement will be kept confidential.
Multiple Drug Raids Lead to Nine Arrests

Newark – Nine suspects, including two alleged gang members and a female, were scheduled for arraignment later today following multiple raids late last week by members of the Essex County sheriff’s Bureau of Narcotics and the Tactical Response Team. The raids were conducted in the city’s West and North districts. Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that the raids were conducted over the weekend. In executing a search warrant at 240 North 11th Street, Fontoura said the detectives seized 21 glassine envelops, containing heroin, stamped “TV GUIDE” in blue ink, three prescription slips and a prescription ID card from Rickey Harris, age 54, the target of the investigation.
Brothers, Cuddling with Gun, Are Arrested

Newark – Two city men and a Newark female were arraigned today on multiple drug and weapons charges following their arrests by Essex County sheriff’s detectives in separate incidents on Friday. Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that detectives from his department executed an arrest warrant for Gregory Scott, age 22, at his second floor apartment at 78 North Munn Avenue at 8:00 a.m. on Friday. Scott was wanted on multiple prior weapons charges. “Our detectives found Scott and his 21-year-old brother Tyree fast asleep in the same bed,” Sheriff Fontoura noted. “When we aroused the brothers to arrest Gregory a fully loaded, .40 caliber, Ruger semi-automatic handgun was discovered on the bed between them.”
Armed Suspect Impersonating Police Officer Arrested

Newark – A city man, armed with an imitation handgun and wearing a Newark police uniform, was arrested this morning by Essex County sheriff’s officers. Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that officers from his department were on quality of life patrol in the area of Heller Parkway and Highland Avenue at 11:00 a.m. today when they observed a man on foot wearing what appeared to be a police uniform and carrying a duffle bag. Sheriff Fontoura added that the man was asked if he was and police officer and the man answered “Yes, I’m with Newark police”.
