Armed Juvenile Arrested

Newark – A gun-toting male juvenile was arrested late last night by Essex County sheriff’s officers. Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that officers from his department’s Patrol Division were conducting quality of life operations at 10:30 p.m. on Saturday when they observed a late model, Honda Civic traveling west on 18th Avenue at a high rate of speed. Sheriff Fontoura said the suspect vehicle came to an abrupt stop at the intersection of Stuyvesant Avenue where a second suspect, later identified as a 16-year-old male, awaited the Honda.

Armed Suspect Was Running an Open Air Drug Bazaar

Newark – A male suspect was arraigned this morning on 19 drug and weapons charges following his arrest yesterday afternoon by Essex County sheriff’s detectives. Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that officers from his department’s Bureau of Narcotics conducted a plainclothes surveillance operation at the intersection of Clinton Place and West Runyon Street after receiving neighborhood complaints of drug trafficking at that location. Sheriff Fontoura said the BON detectives were in place at noon on Wednesday when they observed a suspect, later identified as Amir Bey, age 21 of Newark, loitering in the area.

Reward Offer in Robinson Murder

Newark – Law enforcement authorities today posted a cash reward offer in the murder of a 17-year-old city man. Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that his department’s Crimestoppers program would pay up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest in the November 6th shooting death of Michael Robinson, Jr. The incident occurred shortly after 2:00 p.m. in the area of 90 Spruce Street. Persons with information about the crime are urged to contact the Essex County Prosecutor’s Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force at 1-877-847-7432. All calls to law enforcement will remain confidential.

Irvington – Law enforcement authorities today posted a cash reward offer for information that leads to an arrest in the shooting death of a township man on November 15th. Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that his department’s Crimestoppers program will pay up to $10,000 for details surrounding the murder of 19-year-old Marquise Carruthers who was gunned down on Clinton Avenue, near the intersection of Harrison Place, in the early morning hours this past Saturday. No suspects have been identified as yet and no motive for the shooting has been established. Reward Offered in Nutley Hit & Run Death

Nutley – Law enforcement authorities today posted a cash reward offer for information that leads to an arrest in the death of a 77-year-old woman who sustained fatal injuries when she was struck by a van on November 15th. Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that his deparment’s Crimestoppers program will pay up to $5,000 for details surrounding the incident which occurred at about noon this past Saturday in the 300 block of Centre Street. Sheriff Fontoura added that a dark-colored Ford Econoline van was seen leaving the area of the crash.
