Cash Reward Offer in Unsolved Newark Murder

Newark – Essex County Sheriff Armando Fontoura today announced a cash reward offer for information that leads to an arrest in the murder of Marquet Dorsey, 30, of Newark. Sheriff Fontoura stated Dorsey was shot to death while sitting in his vehicle which was parked in front of 5 Thomas Avenue in Newark at approximately 9:00 p.m. on October 7, 2014. Dorsey was transported to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Fontoura said that his department’s Crimestoppers Program is offering cash reward up to $5,000 for details which assist investigators solve the case. Cash Reward Offer in Newark Murder

Newark – Essex County Sheriff Armando Fontoura today announced that his department’s Crimestoppers program is offering a cash reward up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest in the murder of Yusef Perez, 17, of Newark. Fontoura said that on July 6, 2015, Perez’s body was discovered in the rear of 140 Littleton Avenue in Newark. At the time Perez was a missing person. His disappearance had been reported to the Newark Police Department. He was last seen on July 2, 2015 at approximate 9:45 p.m. in the area of Littleton Avenue and 12th Street in the company of an unidentified male. Perez was a resident of the Georgia King Village also located in Newark. Cash Reward Offer in Ironbound Murder

Newark - Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Police Director Eugene Venable announced that authorities are investigating a shooting incident on Sunday in which a male was fatally shot. Shortly before 7:15 a.m. Sunday, July 26, 2015, Newark Police responded to the 150 block of Walnut Street on a report of a male having been shot. Arriving officers discovered that the victim, who has been identified as Agostinoh Sousa, 40, of Newark, had sustained a gunshot wound to the chest. He was pronounced dead at 7:28 a.m. Sheriff Armando Fontoura announced this morning that his department’s Crimestoppers program has made a cash reward offer up to $10,000 for information that leads to an arrest in the shooting death of Mr. Sousa. The matter is being investigated by the Essex County Prosecutor's Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department. The investigation is ongoing at this time according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly, of the Prosecutor's Homicide Unit. Public Safety Youth Academy

Newark – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray announced today that the annual Public Safety Youth Academy kicked off last week. Some 35 children from the Essex County area, mostly Newark, will spend the next three weeks learning about police and fire. “The goal of this program is to foster relationships between youth and people who work in public safety. These young people will learn about our jobs and get an opportunity to meet firefighters, prosecutors and others in law enforcement up close,’’ said Acting Prosecutor Murray. “We believe it is a valuable experience for the youth and for us.’’ Acting Prosecutor Murray said the program, which is offered to children between the ages of 9 to 12, is a joint initiative with the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, the Essex County Sheriff, Newark Police and the Newark Fire Department. Sheriff Armando Fontoura was a big hit, on Tuesday, opening day, when he deputized the children and told them they will now be able to arrest anyone except their parents. Among other things, the students are given tours of the Historic Court House, the Police Academy, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Crime Scene Unit and the Fire Department. They will learn about gangs and even have fun trips to the Turtleback Zoo and the Newark Museum. There is a graduation ceremony for the youth on Aug. 7.
 
Two Suspects Arrested on Gun & Drug Charges

Newark – Two alleged suspects were arraigned this morning on multiple weapons and drug charges following their arrests late last week by Essex County sheriff’s detectives. Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that his department’s Bureau of Narcotics conducted a plainclothes surveillance operation near the intersection of Brookdale Avenue and Abinger Place on Thursday evening in response to numerous complaints of open air drug trafficking in the area. Sheriff Fontoura added that his BON detectives observed two males loitering in the area when a Mazda Millenium pulled up to the location and the driver engaged in a brief conversation with the two suspects.
