Homicide Reward Offer

Newark – Law enforcement authorities today posted a cash reward offer for information that leads to an arrest in the shooting death of a Newark man last month. Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that his department’s Crimestoppers program would pay up to $10,000 for details surrounding the death of Dwayne Harrison, age 26, who was killed by gunfire in the area of 40 West Kinney Street at 4:00 p.m. on October 21st.
Surrendering Suspect Has Drugs in Underpants

Newark – When a male suspect wanted on three open criminal warrants for narcotics violations surrendered himself this morning at Veterans Courthouse to Essex County sheriff’s detectives additional drug charges were filed against him. Sheriff Armando Fontoura said that the suspect, Deandre Beard, age 24, of Badger Avenue in Newark, arrived at the courthouse shortly before 10:00 a.m. today. He was wanted for possession of a controlled dangerous substance, wandering in a known drug trafficking area and conspiracy to violate New Jersey’s narcotics laws.
Armed Suspect Arrested & Arraigned

Newark – An alleged Crips gang member was arraigned today on multiple weapons charges following his arrest on Saturday night at Westside Park by Essex County sheriff’s officers. Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that Patrol Division officers assigned to the Westside Park Anti-Crime Initiative were at the recreational facility when they received a report and a description of a male wearing a red sweatshirt and black pants who was observed brandishing a handgun near the football field while players practiced.
Reward Offer Increased in Shooting Death of 15-Month-Old Toddler

Newark - Sheriff Armando Fontoura today announced an increase in the Crimestoppers reward offer in the shooting death of 15-month-old Sanai Cunningham of Irvington on October 11, 2014. The Crimestoppers reward offer now stands at up to $25,000. The original reward offer was up to $10,000. The toddler was bouncing on a bed with her parents at their Ellis Avenue apartment when a gunfight between a group of men erupted outside. One of the bullets fired on the street pierced the wall of a second floor apartment, striking Cunningham in the torso.

Irvington - Sheriff Armando Fontoura this evening announced a Crimestoppers reward offer up to $10,000 in the shooting death of a 15-month-old toddler. According to witnesses statement to police, a wild gun battle erupted on Ellis Avenue among at least three armed suspects. "One of the stray bullets apparently pierced the wall at 84 Ellis Avenue and struck the child in the upper torso as she was playing with her parents in their apartment," Sheriff Fontoura said. Persons with information about the crime are urged to contact the Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide Task Force at 877-847-7432. All calls to law enforcement will be kept confidential.
