Newark – A suspected Bloods street gang member was arraigned today on weapons and drug charges following his arrest by EssexCounty sheriff’s officers on Friday.
Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that officers from his department were on routine quality of life patrol in a marked vehicle near the intersection of Kent and Brenner streets late Friday afternoon when a late model Lincoln LS with illegally tinted windows drove by them.The sheriff’s officers activated overhead lights and siren to conduct a motor vehicle stop.
At this point, the rear passenger door opened and a male, later identified as Daquan Cuttino, age 19, of Newark, exited the Lincoln and ran from the scene.
Newark – A suspect was arraigned today on multiple drug charges following his arrestearlier this week by EssexCounty sheriff’s officers.
Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that detectives from his department’s Bureau of Narcotics conducted a plainclothes surveillance operation at 321 Park Avenue on Monday morning as part of an on-going investigation of their target, 55-year-old Leoncio Vargas.
Sheriff Fontoura said that Vargas was observed leaving his residence by the BON detectives at and he was followed.

Newark – A drug suspect was arraigned this morning following his arrest at his home yesterday afternoon by EssexCounty sheriff’s officers.
Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that detectives from his department’s Bureau of Narcotics executed a search warrant for apartment 103 at 9 Summit Avenue in Newark at on Thursday.
Fontoura said that when there was no response to repeated knocking the BON officers found the apartment door unlocked.At that time, they encountered the apartment’s owner, Joel Walton, age 49, in the living room.
Newark – An armed suspect who admitted to EssexCounty sheriff’s officers that he was high on drugs was arrested last night and charged with weapons and narcotics offenses.
Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that officers from his department were on quality of life patrol in the area of Branch Brook Park at on Tuesday when they observed a 2009 Volkswagen Jetta traveling at a high rate of speed and weaving back and forth across a double yellow center line on Lake Street.
Newark – A suspect wanted for the shooting of two female victims outside of the Essex County College gymnasium on the evening of December 27, 2012 waived extradition today in an Atlanta courtroom, following his arrest in that Georgia city on Friday morning.
Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that a task force comprised of federal, sheriff’s, Newark police and EssexCountyCollege police officers developed leads that tracked the movements of Antwan Belfield, age 20, of Newark.
