  • Do not allow unattended children to play in the pool area.
  • When pool is not in use with adult supervisior remove all toys, games and other objects your child may want from the vicinity of the pool.
  • Keep lifesaving equipment, such as a pole, life preserver and rope, in the pool area.
  • Do not place chairs or tables near the outside of pool fences as children can utilize these to climb into the pool area.
  • Empty wading pools when not in use.
  • A child may drown in as little as two inches of water.
  • Regularly check that gate latches are secure & that spring mechanisms work properly.
  • Post CPR instructions in the pool area.
  • Teach your children how to swim

High Risk Profile for Pool Drowning Victims

  • 60% are children, ages 6 months to 4 years old.
  • 75% drown in their own swimming pool.
  • 75% of the time the attributed cause is poor supervision or no pool barrier.
  • In 77% of pool drownings, the child was out of sight for five minutes or less.
