Reward Offer in Newark Murder Increased PDF Print E-mail
Newark – In conjunction with the Essex County Sheriff’s and Newark Police Crimestoppers programs, the family and friends of the late Khary Orr have increased the reward offer for his assailant to up to $15,000.
Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that Orr, age 29 at the time of his death, was struck by a bullet as he sat in the driver’s seat of a friend’s gold Mercedes-Benz on Eckert Street. Orr’s body was discovered at 4:30 a.m. on December 30, 2007. He was pronounced dead later that morning at 6:00 a.m.
Earlier, it is believed that Orr had gone to the Ideal Bar and Restaurant to watch the Giants play on television. Also that evening, Orr dropped a friend off at Newark Liberty International Airport.
Orr, a lifelong Newark resident, was a project coordinator for the city’s Division of Public Housing and a prominent figure in many community activities and events.
