Senior Citizen and Accomplice Arrested on Drug Charges PDF Print E-mail
Newark – An East Orange senior citizen and his Newark accomplice were arrested by Essex County sheriff’s detectives yesterday on drug charges under the fading shadows of the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart.
 
Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that officers from the Bureau of Narcotics, working on confidential information of a pending drug delivery, stopped a blue 1991Geo Prism near the intersection of Clifton and Park Avenues at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
 
The driver of the car was Cirilo DelaRosa, age 53, of Newark and 65-year-old Abel Nina of East Orange sat in the passenger seat.
 
When the BON detectives pulled the vehicle over they observed an open black gym bag on the car’s center console between the two suspects. The bag contained one-half pounds of cocaine with a street value of approximately $25,000.
 
DelaRosa and Able are charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of CDS with intent to distribute, possession of CDS with intent to distribute within 1000 feet of Barringer High School and conspiracy to violate New Jersey’s narcotics laws.
 
Late last night, Newark municipal court Judge Dianna Montes set bail at $500,000 each on the two suspects who are now lodged in the Essex County Correctional Facility where they await arraignment on the drug charges.
