Newark – Essex County sheriff’s officers yesterday arrested two suspected drug dealers in separate incidents
Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that patrol Officers Ryan Udvarhely observed a white 2001 Pontiac Bonneville with illegally tinted windows northbound on Elizabeth Avenue at Miller Street shortly after 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Sheriff Fontoura said that Kiel Williams, age 40, of Irvington, was behind the wheel of the vehicle. A records check of Washington’s driver’s license found that he was operating the vehicle while on the suspended list. Washington was also wanted on a Newark municipal court warrant for a previous careless driving incident.
Officer Udvarhely transported Williams to the sheriff’s patrol headquarters for processing and during a search of the suspect 50 decks of heroin, wrapped in green paper and stamped “Obsession”, in Washington’s left boot.
Williams was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of CDS with intent to distribute and possession of CDS with intent to distribute within 1000 feet of the Miller Street School.
The suspect was also issued summonses for operating a vehicle with illegally tinted windows and for driving while on the suspended list. J
udge Antonio P. Sebastiao ordered Williams to be held at the Essex County Correctional Facility in lieu of $125,000 cash bond. Williams is expected to be arraigned on yesterday’s charges on Monday.
Earlier in the day, sheriff’s Bureau of Narcotics detectives culminated a month-long investigation by executing a search warrant, issued by Judge Robert H. Gardner, at 34 Hecker Avenue in Newark. Sheriff Fontoura said that the BON detectives discovered and seized 565 Oxycodone tablets with a street value in excess of $17,000 that were secreted in a Raisin Bran cereal box at the residence of Dwight Washington, age 36. The sheriff’s detectives also seized $2400 in United States currency which Washington had in his possession.
Washington was charged with possession of CDS, possession of CDS with intent to distribute and possession of CDS with intent to distribute within 1000 feet of Newark Christian School. At today’s arraignment, Judge Amilkar Velez – Lopez ordered the suspect held at the county jail in lieu of $15,000 cash bond.
