Newark – Essex County sheriff’s detectives today arrested two suspects and filed drug charges against them.
Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that officers from the Bureau of Narcotics received information about a drug delivery and conducted a surveillance operation outside of 32 Salem Street this morning.
When a male matching the suspect’s description arrived at that location and passed a package to a 16-year-old juvenile the BON detectives moved in to investigate.
The package was found to contain 18 bags of marijuana and Aswady Conway, age 31, of Newark and the juvenile were placed under arrest.
A pat-down of Conway yielded an additional 24 decks of heroin, stamped “Hell Boy” in blue ink, and 12 bags of ‘crack’ cocaine.
Conway was charged with two counts each of possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of CDS with intent to distribute and possession of CDS with intent to distribute within 1000 feet of Vailsburg Christian Academy. The suspect is also charged with distribution of CDS to the juvenile.
The juvenile was charged with possession of CDS, possession of CDS with intent to distribute and possession of CDS with intent to distribute within 1000 feet of Vailsburg Christian Academy.
Conway was lodged at the county jail where he awaits arraignment in criminal Central Judicial Processing court on today’s charges. The juvenile was placed in the county youth facility where he awaits a hearing in Family Court.
