Reward Offer: Victim Shot in Face PDF Print E-mail

NewarkEssex County law enforcement authorities today posted a cash reward for the 2009 murder of an Irvington woman in Newark.

Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that the Essex County Crimestoppers and the Newark Police Crimestoppers programs have offered up to $7,500 for details leading to the arrest of the suspect wanted in connection with the shooting death of Rita Young -Flythe shortly before 9:00 p.m. on October 7, 2009. The incident occurred outside of 266 South Orange Avenue, near the Fairmount Avenue intersection.

Sheriff Fontoura said that the victim, then age 50, received a single gunshot wound to the face. Young – Flythe was put on life support but ultimately died of the wound on December 19th. She was a long time employee of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in East Orange.

Just prior to the shooting, Ms. Young – Flythe had finished an all women’s narcotics anonymous lecture at Newark’s Harmony House. At the time of the shooting,

Young – Flythe was walkin g to her car.
