Gun Suspect Arrested Outside Dunkin' Donuts PDF Print E-mail

NewarkEssex County sheriff’s detectives today arrested a Newark man and filed weapons possession charges against him.

Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that his office received an anonymous tip that a male suspect, wearing a purple jacket, blue jeans and black boots, was in the area of Vermont and South Orange avenues and had a gun concealed in his waistband.

Fontoura said that sheriff’s detectives responded to the scene and spotted the suspect just before noon outside of the Dunkin’ Donuts shop. Upon questioning, the detectives noticed a bulge in the suspect’s pants.

A patdown yielded a loaded, .38 caliber, Rossi revolver.

Romond Phillips, age 31, of Newark was placed under arrest and charged with the unlawful possession of a weapon.

Superior Court Judge Paul Vichness ordered Phillips held at the Essex County Correctional Facility on $50,000 cash bond only.
