Newark- A suspected drug dealer was arraigned today following his arrest yesterday afternoon by Essex County sheriff's detectives.

Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that as part of an on-going investigation into drug trafficking in the city’s North Ward detectives from his department's Bureau of Narcotics conducted a surveillance operation at the intersection of Montclair Avenue and Bloomfield Avenue at 2:20 p.m. on Wednesday.

At that time, the BON detectives observed a white Nissan Sentra occupied by a male, later identified as Jorge Jiminez, age 22 of Newark, parked at that location. An unidentified female approached the vehicle and the detectives observed what they believed to be a drug transaction.

When the sheriff’s BON detectives moved in to further investigate Jiminez attempted to toss a spray bottle onto the floor of his vehicle. The spray bottle was found to have a false bottom which contained 75 plastic bags of 'crack’ cocaine.

Jimenez was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of CDS with intent to distribute. The suspect was also issued summonses for being an unlicensed driver and for transporting narcotics in a motor vehicle.

At today's arraignment, Judge Arthur Baptista ordered Jiminez held at county jail in lieu of $85,000 bail.
