Robbery Suspects Arrested PDF Print E-mail

Newark – Within minutes of a robbery last evening at Riverbank Park, three male juvenile suspects were placed under arrest by Essex County sheriff’s officers and the proceeds of the robbery were recovered.

Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that the victims of the robbery, two male juveniles, flagged down a sheriff’s officer who was on patrol in the area of Riverbank Park at 6:30 p.m. on Monday and advised him that they were just robbed of their cell phones by three other juveniles. The victims said they were aggressively confronted by the suspects at the park’s tennis courts where they were told that the suspects were in possession a gun. The victims and suspects are all Newark residents.

The victims and witnesses of the crime provided a complete description of the actors who were located five minutes later at the intersection of Market and Congress Streets. The victims and witnesses positively identified the suspects who were placed under arrest with the cell phones found to be in their possession. The suspects were found not to be in possession of a weapon.

The three juvenile suspects who were lodged in the Essex County Youth Detention Center were each charged with two counts of robbery and one count of conspiracy. The suspects will appear in Family Court at a later date for a hearing on the charges.
