Three Suspects Arrainged on Gun and Drug Charges PDF Print E-mail

Newark –Three suspects were arraigned today on narcotics and weapons charges following arrests made Friday afternoon by Essex County Sheriff’s detectives.

Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that detectives from Sheriff's Bureau of Narcotics, armed with a search warrant, made entry at an apartment at 885 S 15th Street in Newark's South Ward.

Upon entry the detectives observed Ayanna Walker, 31 of Newark as well as Jeffrey "Drop" Smith, 42 of Newark, and Lamar Walker, age 22 of Newark, sitting at a metal table apparently packaging narcotics for street sale.

A search was conducted of Smith's apartment and his vehicle located outside the apartment which yielded 104 grams of crack cocaine, 304 deck of heroin stamped "TOE TAG" in red ink, and a loaded Lorcin .380 cal semi-automatic handgun.

Jeffery Smith, Ayanna Walker, and Lamar Walker were charged with unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of CDS, possession of CDS with intent to distribute, possession of CDS with intent to distribute within 1000 feet of Madison School, possession of CDS with intent to distribute within 500 feet of Madison Library and possession of narcotics paraphernalia.

At today's arraignment Judge Marilyn Williams set bail on Jeffery Smith for 350,000 cash or bond, Lamar Walker and Ayanna Walker for 250,000 cash or bond. All suspects are currently lodged in the Essex County Correctional Facility.
