Would Be Robber Chases Victim to Patrol Division HQ

Newark – A robbery suspect was arrested today after he chased his victim to the Essex County Sheriff’s Patrol Division headquarters.

Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that as sheriff’s officers were getting into their patrol vehicles in the division’s parking lot off Clifton Avenue the observed a 1989 Cadillac screech to a halt at the intersection of Victoria Avenue.

The driver of the vehicle got out of the car with a knife in his hand and shouted to a pedestrian to give up his IPod. The potential victim, a 34-year-old city man, ran directly to the Patrol Division headquarters with the suspect following him.

Fontoura said his officers observed the entire incident. Upon realizing where he was the suspect, Naquise Williams, age 26 of Bloomfield, dropped his knife and surrendered to the sheriff’s officers.

The officers then questioned the passenger in Williams’ car. They determined him to be Stanley Gaskins, age 34, of Newark who was wanted on a warrant issued by the Newark municipal court. Gaskins was also found to be in possession of two bags of cocaine.

Williams was charged with first degree robbery, possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes and the unlawful possession of a weapon. Gaskins was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance.

Both suspects were lodged in the Essex County Correctional Facility where they await arraignment on today’s charges.
