Reward Offer in Murder of Newark Airport Employee

Newark – Law enforcement authorities today posted a cash reward offer for information that leads to an arrest in Tuesday’s murder of a Newark Liberty International Airport employee.

Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that his department’s Crimestoppers program would pay up to $5,000 for details surrounding the shooting death of Bruce J. Santos, age 26.

Santos left work at 9:30 p.m. on February 26th and rode a New Jersey Transit bus to the area of 1060 Broad Street. It is believed that the victim was waiting for another bus to take him to his Clifton Avenue home when a gunman approached him at approximately 9:57 p.m. and attempted to rob Santos of his belongings.

Police also believe that a fight between Santos and the armed suspect occurred and that Santos was shot once in the chest. The gunman fled from the scene running east on Camp Street. Santos died of his wound later that night at University Hospital.

Sheriff Fontoura said that several people were in the area when the crime occurred and they may be able to assist investigators.

Persons with information about the murder are urged to contact Detective Rahsaan Johnson of the Essex County Prosecutor’s Homicide Task Force at 201-563-6413 or the Prosecutor’s Tips Line at 877-847-7432.

All calls to law enforcement will be kept confidential.
