Newark Man Caught with 2 Loaded Handguns

Newark- A suspect was arraigned today on multiple gun charges today following his arrest yesterday afternoon by Essex County Sheriff's detectives.

Sheriff Fontoura stated that while exiting Branch Brook Park, Bureau of Narcotics detectives noticed a man, acting suspiciously, walking between the Cathedral Basilica of Sacred Heart and Barringer High School. The man, later identified as Abdul Henderson 36 of Newark, was carrying a green plastic garbage bag. The detectives continued surveillance and spotted what they believed to be a blue handgun carrying case protruding from the bag.

Henderson was charged with three counts of Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, two counts of unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of a weapon while a convicted felon, and resisting arrest by force.

At today's arraignment, Judge Marilyn Williams ordered Henderson held at the Essex County Correctional Facility in lieu of $150,000 bail.
