Newark – A routine motor vehicle stop today by EssexCounty sheriff’s officers led to the arrest of a drug suspect.
Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that officers from his department were on quality of life patrol near the intersection of Empire and Victoria streets late this afternoon when they pulled over a 1999 Chrysler 300 with no visible license plates.
Sheriff Fontoura said that when the officers approached the vehicle they detected the pungent odor of marijuana.The driver of the Chrysler, Erica Wright, was questioned as well as her passenger, 46-year-old Karl Culver of Newark.

Newark – A male suspect was arraigned today on multiple drug and weapons charges following his arrest yesterday afternoon by EssexCounty sheriff’s detectives.
Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that as part of an on-going investigation into drug trafficking in Newark’s South Ward detectives from his department’s Bureau of Narcotics conducted a plainclothes surveillance operation at on Tuesday at 31 Aldine Street.
Sheriff Fontoura said the BON officers were in position when they observed Derrick Camillo, age 49, and Eric Ford, age 43, both of Newark, approach 27-year-old Talon Thomas who was standing in front of his residence.After a brief conversation, the sheriff’s officers observed as Thomas walked down his driveway, open a door, bend down and retrieve items that were on the floor in a blue bag.
Newark – An Irvington man was arrested last night by EssexCounty sheriff’s officers and drug charges were filed against him.
Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that officers from his department were on quality of life patrol at in the area of Osborne Terrace and Hawthorne Avenue when their license plate check of a 1993 Toyota Paseo revealed that the vehicle’sregistered owner, Michael Hunt, age 35, of Irvington, was suspended of his driving privileges.
Newark – Two suspects were arraigned today on weapons and drug charges following their arrest on Friday by Essex County Sheriff’s officers.
Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that Officers Dennis Kihlberg and Christopher Bozios were on quality of life patrol in the area of 195 1st Street, the Garden Spires apartment complex, at noon on Friday when they observed two males talking with another male who was parked in his Jeep Grand Cherokee.
As the officers drove past, one of the suspects, later identified as Al-Tamese Green, age 18, of Newark, threw a small package into the rear of the Jeep.Since the location is a known high intensity drug trafficking area Kihlberg and Bozios approached to investigate.
Newark – A suspected drug distribution operation was shut down this morning as sheriff’s detectives arrested a city man.
Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that officers from his department’s Bureau of Narcotics today executed a search warrant, signed by Superior Court Judge, Joseph Cassini III, at a one-family residence, located at 19 Unity Avenue.
Sheriff Fontoura said that after knocking on the door and announcing their presence the BON detectives were forced to use a metal ram to gain access to the premises.
