Drug Suspect Arrested; Officer & Pedestrian Injured

West Caldwell – A drug suspect was arrested last night following a pursuit from a local pharmacy and a violent struggle with an EssexCounty sheriff’s officer.
Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that officers from his department who had been conducting a six-week fraudulent prescription drug investigation received a tip late Wednesday that a male suspect was attempting to obtain oxycodone pills with a bogus prescription at Walgreen’s, located at 601 Passaic Avenue.
Newark – An armed suspected drug dealer, his alleged accomplice and a drug buyer were arraigned today following their arrests on Sunday afternoon by EssexCounty sheriff’s officers.
Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that plainclothes detectives from his department’s Bureau of Narcotics were conducting a drug investigation at yesterday near the intersection of North 12th Street and 4th Avenue, a known drug trafficking area.
East Orange – A cash reward offer has been posted by the Essex County Sheriff’s Office for information that leads to the arrest of any of the five suspects wanted for a sexual assault of a teenage female.
Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that his department’s Crimestoppers program would pay up to $2,500 for details that assist law enforcement agencies in apprehending the suspects.
Newark – A drug suspect was arraigned today after being arrested yesterday afternoon by an EssexCounty sheriff’s officer following a routine motor vehicle stop.
Sheriff Armando Fontoura said that Officer George Sona was on fixed patrol in Branch Brook Park when he observed a gold Acura traveling east on Park Avenue with what appeared to be a fraudulent inspection sticker.
Officer Sona pulled over the vehicle, driven by Darius Gwyn, age 31, of Smith Street, at Park Avenue and Ridge Street.Upon approaching the vehicle, the sheriff’s officer detected the pungent odor of raw marijuana.As Gwyn handed Sona his license, registration and insurance card, the officer spotted a clear zip-lock bag, containing a green leafy substance protruding from the suspect’s jacket pocket.
Newark – Late Wednesday afternoon, EssexCounty sheriff’s detectives, utilizing electronic tracking devices, recovered a female victim of dementia who had wandered away from a city daycare facility.
Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that officers from his department who operate Project Lifesaver tracking equipment were dispatched to Branch Brook Park Manor, an assisted living complex, on Clifton Avenue on a report of a missing person.Sheriff Fontoura said his officers were advised that a 59-year-old female resident had eloped at approximately from her daycare facility, located on McCarter Highway.
