Newark – A drug suspect was arrested last night by EssexCounty sheriff’s officers and a large quantity of synthetic marijuana was seized.
Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that patrol officers observed a man loading large plastic bags into a Nissan Altima on South Street.When the officers checked the license plate with Central Communications they learned that the vehicle’s registration had expired.
As they approached the vehicle, the sheriff’s officers spotted six other large plastic bags in the back seat.Protruding from one of the bags was a jar, labeled “Hulk”.Upon inspection of the bags, the officers discovered 607 grams of synthetic marijuana.The street value of the drugs is estimated at $10,000.
Suspects Arrested in Stolen Car with Burglary Proceeds

Newark – Four male suspects, two adults and two juveniles, were arrested today by EssexCounty sheriff’s officers following two burglaries in Belleville.
Sheriff Armando Fontoura said that officers on patrol spotted a 2010 Toyota Yaris as it traveled through Branch Brook Park this morning.The suspect vehicle was one of two cars that had been reported stolen out of Belleville earlier in the day as a result of two home burglaries.The Yaris was pulled over on Highland Avenue near Ballantine Parkway where the four suspects bailed out and attempted to flee the scene.
Nov. 30 Final Day to Register with FEMA for Disaster Assistance

New Jersey residents whose homes and properties sustained damage in Hurricane Irene have until Nov. 30 to register for assistance with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
Even if an insurance settlement has not been determined, individuals must register before the Nov. 30 deadline or face losing the opportunity to be considered for federal assistance. Though FEMA will not duplicate insurance benefits, expenses not covered by insurance may be eligible for federal grants after the claim has been paid.
Newark – Two male suspects were arraigned today on weapons and drug charges following their arrest on Monday by officers from the Essex County Sheriff's Bureau of Narcotics.
Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that BON detectives conducted a surveillance operation in the area of South 8th Street late Monday afternoon as a result of numerous neighborhood complaints about drug trafficking at that location.
During the plainclothes operation, the BON officers observed two men, later identified as Effron Bass, age 40, and Alshaquan Brown, age 22, both of Newark, conduct what appeared to be a narcotics sale from a white van that was parked nearby.

Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that detectives from his department’s Bureau of Narcotics executed a search warrant for the second floor apartment at 26 – 28 Avon Avenue just before on Monday.
After surrounding the perimeter of the building, BON detectives knocked on the apartment’s door, announced their presence and heard people scurrying from within the apartment.Fearing the destruction of evidence, the sheriff’s officers entered the unlocked apartment.
