Sheriff's Officer Disrupts Robbery

Newark – Before reporting to the Essex County Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Identification on June 1st for his day shift assignment Officer Jason Haase was enroute to a local Dunkin’ Donuts for an early morning cup of java as is his custom.

On his way to the coffee shop Officer Haase spotted a male suspect who attacked a 19-year-old female and stole her purse. Haase immediately jumped from his car, announced his presence and chased the suspect for two blocks before tackling him to the ground.

Bloomfield Drug Delivery Interrupted; Suspect Arrested

Newark – A Bloomfield drug suspect was arraigned today following his arrest on Friday by Essex County sheriff’s narcotics detectives.

Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that officers from his department’s Bureau of Narcotics were tipped off by a confidential source that a major delivery of cocaine was scheduled to be delivered to the intersection of Belleville Avenue and Davey Street in Bloomfield on Friday afternoon by a person in a white 2006 BMW.

Drug Suspects Arrested in Newark and Montclair

Newark – Drug suspects arrested at Westside Park in Newark and at Glenfield Park in Montclair on Tuesday by Essex County sheriff’s officers were arraigned today in criminal Central Judicial Processing court.

Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that his officers conducted surveillance operations at the two locations in response to anonymous tips from local residents.

Reward Offer: East Orange Murder

East OrangeEssex County law enforcement authorities today posted a cash reward offer for information about an East Orange homicide that occurred in 2004.

Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that the Crimestoppers program will pay up to $5,000 for details that lead to an arrest in the shooting death of Tajiddin Muhammad, age 19, who was gunned down at 7:30 p.m. on January 19, 2004. The crime occurred in the vicinity of 24 Hudson Street.

Kidnap Suspect Arrested; Baby Recovered Unharmed

Newark – A kidnapping suspect was arrested and a two-month-old boy was recovered unharmed by Essex County sheriff’s detectives late this afternoon following an incident that occurred in downtown Newark.

Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that reputed Bloods gang member Marcellus Martin, age 21, of 28 Irving Avenue was taken into custody as he approached his residence on foot with the child shortly before 4:00 p.m.
