Suspect with Guns, Drugs, Cash Arrested & Arraigned

Newark – A city man was arraigned today on multiple weapons and drug charges following his arrest last night by Essex County sheriff’s detectives.

Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that detectives from his department’s Bureau of Narcotics, armed with a search warrant for the second floor apartment at 19 Vermont Avenue, staked out that location at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.

Upon securing the perimeter of the building, the target of the investigation, Andre Green, age 39, exited his residence, got into a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix and drove to a gas station at South Orange and Stuyvesant Avenues. The BON detectives surrounded the suspect vehicle and Green was transported back to his residence.

Irvington – Sheriff Armando Fontoura today stated that through the Essex County Crimestoppers program Verizon is offering a cash reward up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest in the shooting and armed robbery of one of their employees.

Sheriff Fontorua said that the victim, Rasheed Deans, age 33, was repairing a utility pole on Montrose Avenue at 9:50 a.m. on Monday when he was approached by a male teen who was wearing a black face mask, light-colored jeans and a white hooded sweatshirt.

Gun Charges Filed Against Irvington Suspect

Irvington – An Irvington suspect was arrested last night by Essex County sheriff’s detectives and weapons possession and burglary charges were filed against him.

Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that sheriff’s officers arrived at 1035 Sanford Avenue at 9:30 p.m. to execute a non-support warrant on Derrick McHellon, age 46.

Upon entering the multi-apartment residence, sheriff’s detectives observed three males and a female through a window in a hallway door. When the officers announced their presence one of the males immediately fled the scene through one of the apartments while rummaging through his jacket pockets.

Reward Offered in Hit & Run Death of Maplewood Man

Newark – Essex County Sheriff Armando Fontoura today announced that his department’s Crimestoppers program will pay a cash reward up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest in the hit and run fatality of a Maplewood resident which took place in Newark at approximately 11:45 p.m. on February 27, 2011.

Reward Offered in Ironbound Murder

NewarkEssex County law enforcement authorities today posted a cash reward offer for information surrounding the murder of an Ironbound bar owner.

Sheriff Fontoura stated that the Crimestoppers program would pay up to $5,000 for details that lead to an arrest in the blunt force homicide of Eduardo Torres, owner of the Happy Hour Café on Warwick Street.
