Sheriff's Thanksgiving Food Drive Feeds Thousands

The Essex County Sheriff’s Office today completed the final phase of its annual Thanksgiving Food Drive for the Needy and Homeless by delivering holiday meals to local economically disadvantaged residents and social service organizations.

The Sheriff’s Thanksgiving Food Drive was stated 20 years ago with a relatively small clientele. Over the years, it has vastly expanded and now reaches thousands of our less fortunate neighbors.

Sheriff's Narcotics Detectives Arrest 2 Suspects; Seize Guns & Painkillers

Newark – Two suspects were arraigned today on multiple weapons and drug charges following their arrest last week by Essex County sheriff’s detectives. As a result of the arrests three handguns and a large quantity of illegal drugs were seized.

Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that as part of an on-going investigation into the illegal sale and distribution of prescription painkillers detectives from his department’s Bureau of Narcotics arrested two Newark men at noon on Friday at 411 Central Avenue.

Orange Man Arrested for Guns and Drugs

Newark – A male suspect was arraigned today on drug and weapons charges following his arrest by Essex County sheriff’s detectives and Orange police officers.

Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that as part of an on-going investigation the officers in the joint operation executed a search warrant for the residence of Darienne Murray, age 23, at 78 William Street in Orange early on Wednesday evening.

Prescription Drug Disposal Event

Newark – Because the abuse of prescription drugs, including painkillers, now ranks second behind marijuana as our nation’s most prevalent drug problem, the Essex County Sheriff’s Office hosted a media event to promote this Saturday’s “Operation: American Medicine Chest” initiative.

The initiative, sponsored by the New Jersey Sheriffs Association and the Partnership for a Drug-Free New Jersey, is designed to provide a safe way to dispose of unneeded and expired prescription medicines.

Newark Woman Arrested on Drug Charges

NewarkEssex County sheriff’s detectives today arrested a Newark woman and filed multiple drug charges against her.

Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that detectives from his department arrived at 109 Seth Boyden Terrace early this afternoon to execute an arrest warrant for Karriem Reason, age 38, for failure to appear at a court mandated supervision program. Reason had been arrested 29 times and convicted 10 times on drug trafficking charges.

Sheriff Fontoura said that Robin Hall, age 40, was in Reason’s apartment when the officers arrived. Hall told the officers that she was Reason’s girlfriend and that the suspect had just left to apartment.
