Suspect Arrested & Arraigned on Drug Charges

Newark – A city man was arraigned today on multiple drug charges following his arrest yesterday afternoon by Essex County sheriff’s detectives.

Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that as part of an on-going investigation detectives from his department’s Bureau of Narcotics executed a search warrant for the second floor apartment at 303 Sherman Avenue.

Fontoura said the sheriff’s detectives established a surveillance operation at that location early on Monday afternoon and observed the target of the investigation, William “Cool Will” Torres, age 46, exit his residence.

Suspect in Jewelry Store Heist Captured

Newark – Within seconds of the theft of valuable diamond-studded gold chains from a Market Street jewelry store, one of the two suspects was placed under arrest by Essex County sheriff’s officers and the chains were recovered.

Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that officers were on patrol in downtown Newark late this afternoon when they were flagged down by the owner of Brick City Gold, located at 104 Market Street. The owner advised the sheriff’s officers that two men had entered the jewelry store and fled with two chains which he valued at $18,000.

Suspect Arrested and Arraigned on Drug Charges

Newark – A male suspect was arraigned today on drug charges following his arrest yesterday afternoon by Essex County sheriff’s officers.

Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that as part of an on-going drug investigation in the city’s North Ward detectives from his department’s Bureau of Narcotics executed a search warrant for apartment #5 at 131 Grafton Avenue early on Wednesday afternoon.

Upon entering the apartment, the tenant, Jerome Simmons, age 55, along with two females, were detained while the residence was searched.

Reward Offer in IHOP Fatal Shooting

Newark – Law enforcement authorities today posted a cash reward offer for information that leads to an arrest in the shooting death of Papa Khaly Ndiaye, manager of the IHOP restaurant, located at 109 Bergen Street in Newark.

The murder of Ndiaye and the wounding of two otherx occurred at approximately 3:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2013, according to Sheriff Armando Fontoura.

Sheriff Fontoura added that the his department’s Crimestoppers program would pay up to $10,000 for details leading to an arrest.

POT LUCK!

Newark – The victim of an assault and robbery apparently lost track of the amount of property stolen from him late yesterday afternoon and wound up be charged with a crime.

According to Sheriff Armando Fontoura, detectives at his department’s Patrol Division headquarters on Clifton Avenue responded to several screams for help from a male who was outside the police facility at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday.
