Newark – A Newark man was arraigned today on drug and weapons charges following his arrest on Friday by sheriff’s detectives.
Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that officers from the Bureau of Narcotics executed a search warrant for the second floor apartment of Arraheem Washington, age 34, at 9 Howell Place.
Sheriff Fontoura said that Washington had been suspected of drug trafficking and was the subject of an ongoing investigation.
The sheriff noted that when the BON officers pulled up to the location they observed Washington engaged in what they believed was a drug sale. Washington was detained while the sheriff’s officers searched his apartment.
As a result of the search, 40 decks of heroin was discovered over an interior door jamb and a 9mm, semi-automatic Kel-Tec handgun, fully loaded with illegal hollow point bullets was found in the bathroom’s drop ceiling.
Washington was charged with possession of CDS, possession of CDS with intent to distribute, possession of CDS with intent to distribute within 1000 feet of Alexander Street School, the unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and possession of hollow point bullets.
At today’s arraignment in criminal Central Judicial Processing court, Judge Amilkar Velez – Lopez ordered Washington held at the Essex County Correctional Facility in lieu of $100,000 cash bond only.
