Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo and Sheriff /OEM Coordinator Armando B. Fontoura declared a state of emergency for Essex County at 1600 hours on 10/28/12.  All county residents are urged to remain off roads and stay indoors when possible.  Conditions will progressively deteriorate as the day goes on.  

The following Emergency Operations Centers are open as of 1000 hours on 10/29/12: Essex County OEM, Belleville, Bloomfield, Glen Ridge, Livingston, Nutley, Verona and West Orange.

SHELTERS OPEN AS OF 10/29/12 @ 1000 Hours
When seeking shelter the following progressive shelter guidelines should be followed;
1. Shelter at HOME if possible, if not possible
2. Shelter with a FAMILY MEMBER or FRIEND, if not possible
3. Seek Shelter at a LOCAL Shelter, if not possible
4. Seek Shelter at a COUNTY Shelter, if not possible
5. Seek Shelter at a STATE Shelter

Today - Tropical storm conditions are possible, rain will be heavy at times with wind gusts as high as 55 MPH.  Precipitation amounts between 1 and 2 inches.
Conditions will progressively deteriorate as the day goes on.  
Tonight- tropical storm conditions possible.  Rain will be heavy at times with possible wind gusts up to 70 MPH.  New precipitation up to 2 inches.
