Suspect Has Drugs in His Underwear PDF Print E-mail

Newark – A suspect wanted on two open criminal warrants for the possession and distribution of narcotics surrendered himself this morning to Essex County sheriff’s detectives at Veterans Courthouse and additional drug charges were filed against him.

Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that Charles Wooten, age 22, of Newark turned himself in today on the prior drug charges.

Upon processing Wooten, Sheriff Fontoura said that Officer Robert Bailey conducted a routine search of the suspect and discovered 22 bags of marijuana hidden in his underpants.

“We can only surmise that Wooten had ingested a sufficient quantity of the marijuana which impacted his judgment and decision making processes before coming to the courthouse to surrender himself to us,” observed Sheriff Fontoura. “He must have thought he would be sentenced to six months on the original charges and this supply of marijuana would have tided him over during that period. This incident gives a whole new meaning to the term ‘reefer madness’”.

Wooten was charged with an additional count of possession of a controlled dangerous substance and was lodged at the county jail where he awaits arraignment.
