Gun, Drugs, Stolen Goods Recovered; Suspects Arrested
Newark - Two suspects were arrested this afternoon by Essex County sheriff's detectives and narcotics, weapons and theft charges were filed against them.
Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that officers from his department's Bureau of Narcotics, armed with a search warrant, made a forced entry into the second floor apartment of 915 Lake Street.
At that time, a suspect, later identified as Angel Castellanos, age 29, ran to the rear of the apartment and threw a fully loaded, defaced, Cobra 380 semi-automatic handgun out of a bedroom window. The weapon was immediately recovered by sheriff's officers who had surrounded the building.
Castellanos and his roommate, Jossian Tizil, age 31, were both placed under arrest.
Sheriff Fontoura added that the BON detectives also recovered 6 grams of 'crack' cocaine which was on top of a coffee table and 21 grams of marijuana which was secreted in a false bottom of an aerosol can.
Also discovered in the apartment were 100 Northface Apogee jackets with a combined retail value of $40,000.
Castellanos was charged with the unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon while committing a narcotics offense, possession of a defaced firearm and possession of a weapon by a convicted weapon.
Both Castellanos and Tizil were charged with two counts each of possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of CDS with intent to distribute, possession of CDS with intent to distribute within 1000 feet of Park Avenue Elementary School, possession of CDS paraphernalia and conspiracy to violate New Jersey narcotics laws.
Following questioning at BON headquarters, a speedy bail for the suspects will be set and they will be lodged in the county jail to await arraignment on today's charges.
