Newark – A Rutherford man wanted by Newark police for the theft of cell phone tower batteries was arrested this afternoon by Essex County sheriff’s detectives.
Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that Christopher Kennedy, 31, of Rutherford, was wanted for the thefts which occurred in the city’s Ironbound section that occurred on Monday, July 31, 2017.
On that date, a man, utilizing a green Ford Expedition, stole 16 batteries from a cellphone tower. Newark police later developed leads that identified the suspect as Kennedy and a warrant for his arrest for the theft of movable property was issued.
“Kennedy arrived at Veterans Courthouse earlier today and inquired if our department had any holds on him,” Fontoura said. “A criminal background check on the suspect revealed that Newark, as well as West Milford and North Arlington, had issued warrants for his arrest.”
Kennedy was lodged at the Essex County jail where he awaits a bail hearing on his charges.
