Irvington – An alleged drug dealer was arrested last night by Essex County sheriff’s detectives and nearly $20,000 in ‘crack’ cocaine was recovered.

Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that plainclothes officers from his department’s Bureau of Narcotics staged a surveillance operation on Thursday evening near the intersection of Vermont Avenue and Fuller Place in Irvington as part of on-going investigations into drug trafficking in the area.

“Here, we observed Quentin Mixson, 40 of Newark, exiting an apartment complex and carrying a black shopping bag,” Sheriff Fontoura said.  “Mixson was known to us from previous investigations and when we announced our presence he threw the shopping bag to the ground and raised his hands in surrender.”

The bag contained 372 grams of cocaine and Mixson was in possession of $1,242 in suspected drug proceeds.

Mixson was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of CDS with intent to distribute and possession of CDS with intent to distribute within 1000 feet of Burch Charter School.

Mixson was lodged at the county jail where he awaits a bail hearing.
