Newark – A male suspect was taken into custody today by Essex County sheriff’s detectives at his North Ward residence in Newark today and charged with multiple weapons and drug charges.

Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that officers from his department’s Bureau of Narcotics executed a search warrant on Tuesday at 11:35 a. m. for the second floor apartment at 256 Summer Avenue which resulted in the arrest of 41-year-old Stanley Jefferson.

“As a result of the raid, our BON detectives confiscated a fully loaded, .45 caliber Ruger semi-automatic handgun and 24 grams of “crack’ cocaine, “Sheriff Fontoura said.  “The street value of the drugs is approximately $1,200.”

Jefferson was charged with the unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, possession of a weapon without a permit, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of CDS with intent to distribute and possession of CDS with intent to distribute within 1000 feet of Roberto Clemente School.

Jefferson was also found to the subject of three open warrants issued by the Newark municipal court.

The suspect was lodged at the county jail where he awaits a bail hearing on today’s charges.
