Newark- Due to the extreme heat, Sheriff Armando Fontoura, Coordinator of the Essex County Office of Emergency Management and Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo Jr. have announced that starting immediately cooling centers across Essex County will be open for local residents to use in order to avoid the hazardous health conditions associated with this magnitude of weather.
“In order to ensure the safety and health of our residents, our Office of Emergency Management is opening multiple cooling centers across Essex County,” The Sheriff said. “We remind you that children and the elderly are most susceptible to these harsh conditions and caution that these weather conditions should never be taken lightly.”
The Sheriff announced the location and hours of the following cooling centers:
Essex County-
Codey Arena – 7 am till 10 pm
Belleville-
Senior Center – 125 Franklin Avenue – M-F 8am-4pm Sat 10am-8pm
Bloomfield-
Civic Center – 84 Broad Street – 8am-4pm
Bloomfield High School – 160 Broad Street – 8am-4pm
Caldwell-
Community Center -One Provost Square -8am – 4pm
Caldwell Library – 268 Bloomfield Ave – 8am – 4pm
