Newark – As a result of a road rage incident early this afternoon, two suspects were arrested and weapons charges were filed against them by Essex County sheriff’s detectives. Sheriff Armando Fontoura stated that as plainclothes officers from his department’s Bureau of Narcotics drove their unmarked vehicle through the intersection of South Orange Avenue and Norfolk Street at 1:05 p.m. today they observed two armed males in a heated verbal exchange. “Ennis Cromer, age 35, the driver of a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am, was brandishing and pointing a fully loaded, semi-automatic Glock handgun with an extended capacity magazine at Sean Santamassino, age 31, armed with an M-Tech folding knife, the driver of a 2017 Chevy Cruz,” the sheriff said,  “Both suspects who are Newark residents were quickly disarmed.  The handgun was later discovered to have been stolen out of Cobb County, Georgia, on January 5. 2013.” Cromer was charged with the unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, possession of an extended capacity ammunition magazine, receiving stolen property, and the 4th degree of aggravated assault. Santamassino was charged with the unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, and making terroristic threats. Both suspects were lodged at the county jail, pending bail proceedings.
