Hall of Records
Hall of Records
Superior Court Civil Division courtrooms are located at the Hall of Records. Sheriff’s officers assigned to these courtrooms assist and protect this venue’s judges, litigants, jurors and the public.
The Civil Division corrects civil wrongs and makes decisions in matters such as educational funding, financial awards in a variety of civil lawsuits, property distribution and probate issues.
While the Civil Division does not have the glamour often associated with the Criminal Division or the highly charged emotional drama found in the Family Division, the Civil Division adjudicates issues that have a profound impact on the lives of all New Jersey citizens.
The Hall of Records is also headquarters for the County Executive and his administration. The Essex County Board of Chosen Freeholders convenes its sessions and operates on a daily basis from this facility. Among other county government offices also located at the Hall of Records are the Essex County Clerk and Surrogate and Register of Deeds and Mortgages and their respective staff members.
