Records and Archiving
The BCI maintains criminal records on all persons who are booked and processed by Sheriff’s personnel. This includes original arrests and persons arrested for indictable offenses who are remanded to the Essex County Correctional Facility or appear in Superior Court. Currently, the BCI maintains over 300,000 criminal record files.
The Records Management System allows BCI personnel and other law enforcement agencies to search the database by a variety of search criteria, including name, date of birth, social security number, SBI number, nicknames and addresses.
The BCI consolidates and archives older records regularly. The archived records are stored digitally for future reference.
